Tolaram Foundation has been created by Sonny Aswani, the head of Tolaram Group Baltics, to enhance the social fabric of the country, by lending opportunity to those that are shunned by society, to develop self esteem and be able to add value to their lives and those that surround them.
The Foundation has defined the need to assist handicapped children, in the manner of establishing a centre for music education. The system to be adopted is highly acclaimed and proven, developed by Kaarlo Uusitalo and known as the Kuvionuotit methodology using a combination of figures and colours in identifying each note. This system has opened the possibilities to teach children with different mental disabilities.
The methodology has been in practice in Finland since 1990, where it was first developed, and has been incorporated into the research programs of highly vaunted institutions such as the universities at Helsinki and Jyv?skyla and also the Sibelius academy. The students of Resonaari Music School, centre of figurenotes’ teaching, have given concerts in Finland and abroad. For example in autumn 2002 they had a tour in Japan.
