Culture Departament of the Riga City and Pavuls Jurjans Music School in Riga, Resonaari Special Music School in Helsinki and Tolaram Foundation in Tallin has started their co-operation at May 1, 2009 in project Music for All. The project is designed to address issues in connection with accessibility to qualitative, goal-oriented music education for people with special needs.
Project is going to last from May 2009 till April 2011 and is financed by Central Baltic Interreg IV A Programme 2007-2013. The main activities of the program are teachers exchange seminars in each partners countries, joint teachers seminar in Helsinki, production of documentary Music for All and publishing of methodology handbook for teachers Teachers Manual.
With the help of this project it is important to change attitude of politicians, educational employees and society in general towards people with special needs, who study music. Comprehension should be obtained that this special part of society has also rights to receive high quality music education.
For each book you’ ll find attached a DVD.
DVD was filmed during the project „Music for All. Improving Access to Music Education for People with Special Needs“ in all partner countries and is included in a book to provide a visual and audial impressions to users of the “Teachers Manual for Special Music Education”. On DVD you can see practical examples of songs that are introduced in the book and have pedagogical ideas on how music can be taught to students with special needs. It’s always a different experiance to see methodes in use with real students. Since a work on Teachers Manual going forward in big steps, we could already present quite a large package of information to our experts. .These are special music teachers, that are not envolved in a daily work of project team, but they are following our work and giving suggestions and sharing ideas of material for the Teachers Manual. Expert meeting took place in Tallinn, April 16 – 17. There we had a discussion of songs – what songs?, why these?, ideas for improvement. Every partner was presenting its choice and telling about possibilities and activities. That way we got many good suggestions and ideas. Thanks a lot to our experts! And the work on Teachers Manual continues. The next step – to prepare all information in one style of layout and find a designer of a book.
